Which island? I believe you may be correct if you’re talking about Oahu but the big island I would think wouldn’t be the same threshold.

The poverty threshold for Hawaii is $28,290, not $93,000. There are lots of families in Hawaii who don’t pull down $200k a year, send their children to public schools, and survive just fine.

Not sure where the $93000 number comes from, but the latest info from https://aspe.hhs.gov/2019-poverty-guidelines shows the poverty levels in HI to be significantly less. The point, though, about many people working more than one job is absolutely valid.
