And as Peter said Pahoa is a bit rough. Considered the dope capital of the Big Island. Crime rate of the area is very high. The whole Puna district is someplace most would never live if they had a choice. Some very good tourist spots south of Hilo, and worth visiting – and then leaving.

Also you can’t attend public schools. You need to send them to a private school. This is because u are not a legal resident. You would have to get admitted to a private school and apply for a student visa afterwards. To get a visa you need to prove you have sufficient capital to sustain living expenses as well as the tuition. Ive been to korea and the real estate is high over there as well. However the utilities are cheaper. Prepare to spend at least 10k per year per child for tuition
